A workshop in Almere Oosterwold where residents, farmers, civil servants and developers came together to explore new forms of collaboration. Protopia Studio guided the process and brought government and developers into dialogue with resident initiatives.
Oosterwold is an experimental urban district where 18,000 homes are being built in an agricultural landscape. The challenge: how can resident initiatives, government, farmers and developers work together to accelerate major transitions in housing, agriculture and climate?
Protopia Studio guided the process with professional stakeholders, gathered challenges, translated them into a substantive programme and organised partnerships and funding. Together with local initiators and artists, we created a day full of art, dialogue and systems thinking.
The event brought together around 40 key figures and resulted in concrete proposals such as an area cooperative, water ateliers and inspiration tours. The Province of Flevoland expressed the ambition to continue this work with more gatherings and interventions. Oosterwold was positioned as a testing ground for broad prosperity and a vital society.
